We Are Losing Our Culture

Pakistan has lost its identity! Westernization has intruded so deeply into our culture that the Islamic values and “Adaabs” have faded away.

ASSALA MU ALAIKUM viewers!  Where is this country leading to? Has anyone really thought about it? Why is it that our culture is dying in front of our eyes and westernization has taken its place? We should stop and think whether Pakistan is really what its name meant to be?? Or is it just another country vanishing under the magic charm of modernization??  Pakistan has lost its identity! Westernization has intruded so deeply into our culture that the Islamic values and “Adaabs” have faded away. Western influence can be seen all around, but most particularly it can be seen in the way Pakistanis have started dressing up. Whatever fashion becomes popular abroad, it is being adopted by people here, without thinking that it is not meant for their body type or cultural values. Also the Pakistani fashion industry is so enthused by the foreign styles that they don’t even hesitate before introducing revealing clothes in their collection. The TV channels show various newscasters and different characters in the dramas wearing westernized clothes. In addition to this, intimate scenes are becoming more frequent in TV programs.

Whatever fashion becomes popular abroad, it is being adopted by people here, without thinking that it is not meant for their body type or cultural values.

We have forgotten our own values and beliefs and as a result we are getting entrapped deeper into the mesh of westernization.  Alcohol, prostitution, drugs are becoming usual and regardless of their openness, no measures are being taken to eliminate them from our society.

It can also be noticed that most of the people here are not proud to speak our own language now and this is mostly seen in the middle and upper class. We are adopting English. Maana k international language he magar iska matlab ye nahi hai k hm apni qaumi zaban ko bhool jayen! Hamen differences nahi bhoolnay chahyen!!!!!!!

Other than western culture we are also influenced by Bollywood. In my opinion it’s not the fault of Indian Channels or others. They can’t be blamed for what they are showing. They are in a sort of competition to race with each other. Even our local channels  are showing vulgar dramas. Conversations between youth and college students often focus on new Indian songs and movies or discuss the affluent lives of actors and actresses. Pakistani girls idolize Katrina Kaif, Karina Kapoor and other actresses and equally admire actors like Shahrukh Khan and Salman khan. Many of them have very least awareness of the Pakistani Music Industry since Bollywood has become a complementary market for them. What, may I ask, happened to the viewers??? Have we all, at the prompt of the moment, converted to Hinduism??? Should all married ladies have a bindiya on the forehead and sport sindur in the maang??? We are more enthusiastic about Holi, Diwali, Christmas, Halloween, and New Year. All these celebrations are not included in our customs but yet we find them more entertaining and enjoyable.

it’s not the fault of Indian Channels or others. They can’t be blamed for what they are showing ,They are in a sort of competition to race with each other.

THIS IS WHAT WESTERN COUNTRIES AND BOLLYWOOD HAS DONE TO US!!!  This is not what ALLAH wants from us!!

Several Pakistanis believe that banning Indian movies and music is the only solution for the losses suffered by Pakistan. The parents can supervise what their kids are watching and the Government can keep an eye on what our local and foreign channels are displaying. Until Bollywood remains rooted in the minds of Pakistanis and until there is no real sense of responsibility to recover our society and put Pakistani interests first no major change can begin to occur. To make the Pakistani Music Industry stronger Pakistanis have to take charge. We need to understand how our actions affect our country as a whole.
